Do What You Love, The Money Will Follow is not about getting rich quick. It's a book that encourages others to get in touch with their true desires, needs and strengths.

It’s about people acting on their own initiative confidently, without having to consult anyone for approval.

When people feel good about themselves, they’re not afraid to rock the boat or upset the status quo. Not everyone will approve of their chosen vocation but they’re okay with that.

They’re not willing to reject themselves in order to please others. In other words they have high self esteem most of the time.

When people have lower self-esteem, they don’t know what they want because they’re too busy worrying about what others expect or if they will approve of their choices. Eventually they may forget about everything they ever wanted because they’re so focused on everyone else.

  • Since there’s a waiting period before the money will follow, it’s important that people feel worthwhile in their jobs without riches. They also need to be patient and disciplined because it will take time and effort before the money comes.

Other Qualities That Successful People Have:

  • They find creative solutions to their problems.
  • They’re able to get in touch with their life’s purpose.
  • They’re independent and confident that they can take care of themselves no matter what happens.
  • They’re determined and will keep trying at something until they can do it successfully. They don’t just wait for someone to rescue them or fix things for them.
  • They have faith in themselves and their ability to succeed.
  • They learn from their mistakes and try not to repeat them.

Self Acceptance

If an individual can accept others, it’s easier for them to accept themselves. Pay attention to tendencies to judge or put others down. Marsha Sinetar expands and explains how forgiving others mistakes and accepting them are huge steps towards self-acceptance.

What people say to others when they mess up is similar to how they judge themselves. If someone is patient and kind with others, they will likely be that way to themselves.

  • Usually when people are busy doing what they love, they’re unaware of how much time has passed because they’re so into the task at hand. An artist could get lost painting for hours and still feel energized. The same goes with a writer, baker, cabinetmaker or lawyer.

Do What You Love, The Money Will Follow, Marsha Sinetar, Dell Publishing, 1987, ISBN# 0440501601, delves deeper into self-discovery in order to embrace and enjoy the job chosen. At the end there are questions to ask and reflect upon that will help get in touch with each individual’s unique vocation.

It’s never too late to make a living from what makes you happy. It takes courage however to be different and step away from the crowd, knowing you will face some disapproval.
