Susan Sly has it all - she's an author, mother, entrepreneur, and athlete. Her book, " The Have it All Woman," is a must-read for women who are searching for balance.
Q: Susan, the title of your book is The Have it All Woman. What does the term "have it all woman" actually mean to you? In America and all over the world right now there are some big issues at the forefront for every woman. The first is the economy. Women often suffer the most in an economic downturn. The vast majority of married women do not fully comprehend what goes on in their household savings, investments and expenditures. Single woman are still not treated with the same financial respect as men. Historically in times of economic uncertainty spousal abuse also rises. These are challenging times. A Have It All Woman knows what is going on with her finances and she knows how to generate more income when required. The book teaches this and the simple laws of money. Women are also suffering with their health. Obesity, heart disease, diabetes and cancer are all on the rise for women. Women want to combat aging and live a healthy, vibrant life and yet when we are stressed our health tends to fall to the wayside. The book teaches women that to put our health first is not selfish, it is actually selfless. When we are sick, obese, stressed out or mentally exhausted our relationships suffer; we are not good mothers, lovers, friends or employees. The Have It All Woman learns the simple ways she can put her own health first on minimal time and live into a legacy of optimal health. The Have It All Woman goes for her goals. She understands that we all want different things. Women can truly have it all and the first step is to let go of comparisons to other women. We can be our own worst enemies. At the end of the day it doesn’t matter what anyone else is doing, it only matters what we are doing. A Have It All Woman takes control of her destiny; she isn’t a victim of circumstance – she is victorious. Q: Could you give some background about your life prior to writing the book?Like many women, my life has had ups and downs. I choose to face my challenges head on and not allow myself to be a victim. When my marriage failed I got clear on who I deserved to be with and now have the most amazing husband. When I lost my business I decided that it was better than an MBA so I learned from it and went on to become a millionaire. When my health took a nose dive I realized that I had to listen to my body and now am incredibly healthy. I took all of these lessons and turned them into the Have It All Women book. Q: What made you decide to write the book? There are a lot of self help books out there for women. It would imply that there is something wrong with us. I felt that a book that amplied a woman’s strength and helped her live into a life of abundance in all areas was needed. Many women lead such busy lives and having one book that provides solutions in health, relationships, finance, and more that was easy-to-read and had principles that were straightforward would help a lot of women. I have had my own struggles and am very candid in the book when I talk about self-loathing, depression, eating disorders and feeling less than good enough. I went from terribly unhealthy and over $100,000 in debt to living a vibrant healthy and financially fulfilling life. I want that for every woman. Every one of us deserves to have it all. Q: In your book you discuss healthy nutrition. What do you feel is the area where most women fall short?Great question! The number one reason women fail is because they get seduced into thinking that there is a magic bullet out there. There isn’t. Any woman who is lean, fit and healthy works hard at it. In the book I discuss the twelve factors that influence how a person looks and the simple daily habits that absolutely transform a person’s body. Q: As part of your belief that contribution is part of being a "have it all woman", you have traveled to Cambodia. What sort of work have you done there?Child sex trafficking is rampant in the world. At any moment of the day thousands of children are being abused sexually and physically. In Asia it is particularly prevalent. When I traveled to Cambodia and looked into the eyes of little girls, as young as four, who had been raped and trafficked I knew I had to do something. Not only do ten percent of all Have It All Woman book sales go to support a trauma centre in Cambodia where girls are rescued from sex slavery, my husband and I have donated tens of thousands to this project. If people go to my site – they can find out more about the project. Q: Do you have any advice for a woman who is beginning the journey to finding balance in her life?Just know that wherever you are at right now is perfect. You can choose to write a new chapter in the story of your life. Let go of judgements and comparisons to others – that will never serve you. None of us really know what goes on in someone else’s life. Your focus must be on your life and what you can do. I would urge you to read the book and get a copy today. Apply the principles and be among the thousands of women who are deciding that they too can have it all.
